WARNING!! SOMEONE MAY
OVERRIDE YOUR CAR'S REMOTE
Johan Blignaut 29/07/2010
If you press the remote of your
car to lock it while someone else in close proximity to your
car is pressing and holding the button of another remote
(gate/car/garage etc.), your car might not lock.
Thus, if you have the habit to lock your car while walking
away from it, beware.
Criminals were found to do this at Engen and Ultra City
garages.
When the owner returns to his vehicle, he presses the remote
to open and get in, not noticing that the car was actually
open, only to find that valuables are missing.
This method works in about 90% of all cars!
Make sure that your car does lock, before walking away. |

ILLEGAL ABORTION POSTERS
Sharon Rushton 26/07/2010
Dear Johan
Recently I have seen an alarming number of illegal abortion
posters on lamp posts, pillars etc. Despite groups going out
and tearing them down, they appear within 48 hours again. Is
there not a law against such posters that is enforceable by
the municipality? Abortion may seem like an easy way out of
a problem but this is not true. Having worked with
Post-abortive women for the last 9 years, I know that many
of these women experience devastating after effects
following an abortion. Can we encourage people to take down
these illegal posters? In doing so, they may save a little
life and the emotional trauma of the mother. We provide
positive alternatives to abortion and would encourage the
women facing unplanned pregnancies to give us a call.
Thank you

SIM ROAD DISGRACE
Graham Fick 26/07/2010
I live in Glen Marais. I travel the back road past the
new Pick 'n Pay and up Sim Road and then onto the freeway.
Sim Road is absolutely disgusting. There are so many
potholes and people have to drive both sides of the road to
avoid these holes. Residents are filling the holes
themselves, trying to make the road accessible. Please send
the Municipality round to do something. Thank you for the
opportunity to voice our complaints.
Comments:
Johan Blignaut 26/07/2010
Graham, I am
quite an influential man, but unfortunately I don't have the
power to send the Municipality round to do anything. Please

Johan Blignaut 26/07/2010
I emailed Philip du Plessis with a query regarding their
plans for Sim Road. His response was to forward my letter to
a Steven Mahlaba with the message: "Please inform Mr
Blignaut of proposed actions to Sim Road." It will be
interesting to see what response we get in this regard. As
they say: "Watch this space."
Johan Blignaut 28/07/2010
It is now two days since
Philip du Plessis requested Steven Mahlaba to inform us
about the plans for the restoration of Sim Road. Up till
now there has been no response from him.
Steven Mahlaba 29/07/2010
My apologies
for taking this long in responding to your concerns on
Sim Road.
The Department is aware of the situation at Sim Road,
and an investigation was conducted by our WSP Consulting
Engineers on what needs to be done to restore the road.
The following was recommended:
● Recycle
the entire bad part of Sim to the same standard as the
north part which ties with Loam Road
● Installation of kerbs on both side of the road to
prevent erosion.
The
Consultant was requested to give instruction to a
Contractor to start, however once we have the programme
of work from a Contractor we will communicate on the
start date.

MENS OF DIER IN NOOD
Ina Calitz 26/07/2010
My
diere moet baie liefde kry.
haal. (En hulle is toe daardie ure!....) Hy was baie
hardekoejawel. My seun moes mooipraat!. Toe my seun met
gesteel het, was sy kommentaar bloot “he did not mean it
like that”.
beskuldig! Dis uiters siek sou ek sę! Is so iets enigsins
toelaatbaar? Dit laat mens wonder of jy net anderpad moet
kyk na mens of dier wat in die nood is?
Comments:
Johan Blignaut 26/07/2010
en gaan jy hierdie saak by hom rapporteer?
Ina Calitz
03/08/2010
geval? Dit laat my as individu net steeds wrokkig voel oor
dit wat hulle gedoen het. |
AMAZING REACTION TIME

I live in Birchacres Ext 3
near Alex shopping centre and we have had numerous
problems with public drinking, prostitution, drug
smuggling and excessive noise. Due to the standing
together and a petition through Mr. Johan Jordaan and
our local SAPS intervention, we have now only to make a
call and, my goodness, 5-10 minutes and the place is
clean and quiet. We would like to thank the relevant
action-takers and the public for their smart and
diligent reaction, especially a policewoman and her
crew who react as fast as possible to try to restore
this area into a place where decent people can walk and
shop in peace. God Bless you all. With kind regards and
enormous smiles on our faces. Supt. Maredi and Mr Johan

THE LAW ON LAPAS & CARPORTS
Chris Dippenaar
23/07/2010
Carports are governed by the requirements in the
National Building Regulations and Buildings Standards Act as
any structural steel structure for a commercial or
industrial development.
1. Plan approval is set in SANS 10400 and undertaken by a
SACAP registered professional.
2. Many structural and building work complying with the
deem-to-satisfy rules (simplified rules that has proven to
stand the test of time and works) in SANS 10400 can be built
using these guidelines; Walls comply with Part K and Timber
roof structures with Part L for instance. Any building or
structure that does not comply with the deem-to-satisfy
rules is subject to a rational design by a competent person
(A19 appointment, etc.). Now if your carport falls within
the ambit of Part L - roofs and it is placed on masonry
walls also compliant to Part K's deem-to-satisfy rules you
do not require structural input from a competent person.
3. The minute your structure does not comply with any of
the deem-to-satisfy rules the NBR requires a rational design
by a competent (structural engineer, technologist or
technician registered with ECSA) person. This rational
design is conducted using the SA National Standards, i.e.
loading and material codes. There are no deem-to-satisfy
rules for structural steel and therefore any steel carport
has to be designed by a competent person and in terms of
the NBR requires an A19 appointment form as well as an
engineer’s completion form is required. The same goes for a
timber structure that may be compliant with
the deem-to-satisfy rules but the supports may be something
else, for instance timber columns or structural steel.
4. Thatched roof pole constructed roofs (lapas) have to
be designed by a competent person since there are
no deem-to-satisfy standards that do not require a rational
design.
5. According to the NBR all timber, pole and steel
structures not compliant with the simplified rules are
subject to engineer's approval; this will also include
foundations and off course even a geotechnical
investigation.
6. Many contractors are not aware of this hence the rickety
“chicken shacks” being erected in the cheapest possible way.
However, in terms of the NBR the owner is responsible and
should appoint the competent person.

WATER LEAK PROBLEMS

The idiots at the council need our account number with them

DANN ROAD SPEED SAGA
Aletha van der Westhuizen
13/01/2010 Letter to Metro Police:
I stay in Dann Road, Glen Marais and I
have a concern about the speeding that is currently
going on. Can the public be reminded that it is a
60km/ph road! Some people even flash their headlights
at you to drive faster, bypass you, just to slam on
their brakes at the robots. Last year there was a
couple of accidents in Dann Road and I am afraid it is
going to escalate shortly if the public is not doing
their bit.
20/01/2010 Response from Chief Superintendent Leon
Saaiman:
22/07/2010 Letter to C/Supt Leon Saaiman:
Dear Mr Saaiman, Your records will show that during the
last 4 weeks there were 6 (six) accidents in Dann Road,
(that I know of and that I have personally witnessed)
one of which were directly in front of my complex. The
way people are speeding up and down this road is not
acceptable and I trust that serious action will be taken
in this regard.
22/07/2010 Report in Beeld:
Mnr.
in Kempton Park gesterf. Horak was op pad na ’n
winkelsentrum om kos te gaan koop toe ’n ander motor by
’n kruising in Danweg, Glen Marais, in sy motor
vasgejaag het. Sy motor was ’n wrak en hy moes daaruit

AN OPEN LETTER TO
PRESIDENT ZUMA
Dr Hennie Barnard 22/07/2010
The Honourable President of the Republic of South Africa
Mr Jacob Zuma
Dear Mr President
A church leaders' conference
was held in the Kempton Park City Hall on May 6, 2010
where the crime situation, associated challenges and the
public's fears were discussed amongst the church
leaders, Genl. Mokwena and a delegation from SAPS. The result of
this was a joint undertaking and a request:
-
The church leaders will
henceforth fight crime this way: We accept that all
authority come from God and will therefore, where
necessary, force ourselves to react in the opposite
spirit regarding the issues where we do not agree
with S.A.'s government. We undertake to start to
genuinely and whole-heartedly honour and respect you
and those in your government, and to pray for all of
you with an urgency like never before. We will
further encourage everyone in our spheres of
influence (primarily our congregations) to do the
same. This should result in God's plan for sound and
good governance to click into action. A sub-set of
good governance is the inevitable restoration of
proper law and order which in turn will lead to
South Africans starting to co-exist in harmony
without living a life of fear.
-
Despite the excitement
of the 2010 WC, the soccer T-shirts on Fridays, the
calls for unity and everyone trying to put their
best foot forward to welcome the world, tens of
people are still dying unnecessary every day at the
hands of criminals through contact crimes. For this
reason, there was consensus when the call was made
to bring back the death penalty. All life is
precious. But criminals have seized to understand
the severity of their deeds as their own lives are
not endangered at all when successfully convicted of
murdering, slaughtering, maiming, raping or causing
permanent blindness to a baby. We therefore ask you
to re-instate the death penalty a.s.a.p. as
punishment for serious contact crimes at least until
such a time that criminals understand the biblical
eye-for-an-eye principle.
We thank you for exhibiting
strong leadership and courage in taking this bold step.
We know it is for the better of South Africa as a whole.
Comments:
Johan Blignaut 22/07/2010
The above mentioned open letter from Dr Hennie Barnard
was posted and emailed to the President at

letter and paste it into a new email to the President.
From my personal view point, I fully agree with the
contents of the letter and has already emailed the
letter to the offices of the President.

TREES NEED TO BE CUT
Frans Smith, Tel: 011 974 8914 22/07/2010
Thank you for this new feature.
I have two very large trees on my home pavement which
have to be cut as they have become too big and hang over
the road and poses a problem as high vehicles actually
collide with them, especially in summer after rain.
As these are on the pavement Ekurhuleni Metro is
responsible for the trimming but it has been an
impossible task to try and talk to anybody who can
actually point you in the right direction as to who is
responsible for this task. The general enquiries
number answered by a very pleasant lady provided a
number – 011 921 2311 which is supposed to be the
contact number for the department handling the cutting
of pavement trees, but for the last two weeks solid this
number has been engaged. Even before normal office
hours it is engaged. We have not been able to
secure an alternative number and desperately would like
to make arrangements to have the cutting done before the
trees start sprouting for summer. If you are able
to provide a number or even an address of the relevant
department it would be much appreciated. Thank you
for a very usefull web site.

WAT HET VAN PUNTDIENSTE
TYDENS SPITSVERKEER GEWORD?
Dr.J.J.A.Labuschagne 22/07/2010
Ek ry twee oggende weekliks vanaf Kempton Park na Benoni
via Atlasweg.
zebrastrepe oorgesteek. Nodeloos om te se, almal;
taxis, trokke, trekkers, manne, vroue van alle
ouderdomme doen dieselfde, seker omdat almal voel hulle
kan. Gevolglik lei dit tot geweldige
verkeersopeenhopings met geweldige frustrasies.
Ons staar stewige verhogings betreffende belastings en
heffings in die gesig. Slaap die metropolisie nog
daardie tyd van die oggend? Wat het van die
puntdienste tydens spitsverkeer geword? Waarvoor

BLUE GILL SPEED BUMPS
Richard Scholes 21/07/2010
Hi Johan, I have lived in
Blue Gill about Ten years. We have had speed bumps for
quite awhile. But now they have increased the height out
of all propotion. Not only does it bring you to a dead
stop, but I think it must be damaging my trailer and
vehicles suspension possibly? Are there rules and
regulations for this type of thing. Who decides for the
residents what is acceptable / unacceptable?

ROAD PROBLEMS IN BONAERO
PARK
Gerald Steyn 21/07/2010
The Kemptalk is a
great idea, whoever came up with the idea needs a pat on the
back.
Does anyone know what is happening with the road surfacing
in the Bonaero Park area? There is a construction company
filling certain parts of the roads with proper tar and
leaving all the smaller potholes open. Is the municipality
planning on resurfacing all the roads? The job being done
now isn’t going to last too long as the contractor is mixing
plaster sand and tar and filling the cracks and a thin film
of tar has been sprayed on all the roads over all the
potholes. Seems to be a waste of time.
